Black Adam CinemaCon Footage Teases Antihero Action for The Rock

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson made a surprise appearance at the ongoing CinemaCon event in Las Vegas, introducing the latest footage from his upcoming DC outing, Black Adam. Coming courtesy of Warner Bros., fans have been waiting for Johnson to suit up as Black Adam for quite some time, with Johnson believing that the long wait has been beneficial to the movie’s development.

“It really served us well to wait and hold and watch these other stories and these other superheroes unfold and have that really inform us moving forward how we were going to create Black Adam and the story that we were going to tell. So this truly is a dream of mine. It has been a dream of mine… It’s one of the things in my life that gets me out of bed, it stokes that flame in that passion. It makes me a burner. And I know there’s a lot of burners in this room here.”

The Rock also again teased the change in the DC’s hierarchy of power and assured fans that Black Adam will be worth the wait.

“We have been talking that Black Adam, the hierarchy of power in the DC universe is about to change. That’s not far off. And that’s not hyperbole. And you know, when you see the movie and you see the character, you’ll understand what I mean. Jaume Collet-Serra, when I met with him probably about four or five years ago. He said ‘Who is your favorite actor of all time?’ I said ‘Clint Eastwood ‘and he goes, ‘I’m glad you said that because I see Black Adam as being the Dirty Harry of the superhero world.’ And that was in many ways our North Star.”

The Black Adam CinemaCon Trailer Sounds Action-Packed

Coming courtesy of Deadline, who was present at CinemaCon, the description of the Black Adam footage on display certainly sounds action-packed. Beginning with futuristic ships flying “against a snowy mountain landscape.” We then get a shot of Pierce Brosnan’s Dr. Fate, who says, “Black Adam, what are the powers that have been given to you? Loving but heartache?”

Johnson’s Black Adam then says “that he was born a slave, “then I was reborn a god.’ Black Adam can be the savior of the world, or its enemy.” Things quickly kick off, with Black Adam seen “destroying helicopters and coming in contact with what looks to be mercenaries.” Even walking away from an explosion in true action hero style. Understandably, the mercenaries are scared of the antihero in front of them, especially when he “catches a rocket.”

After some action shots of the Justice Society of America, Black Adam shows us what makes him so different from the likes of Superman and Batman. Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman stands face-to-face with Black Adam and says, “There are heroes and villains; heroes don’t kill people.”

“Well, I do,” Black Adam replies. The crowd cheers. The hierarchy of power has indeed changed.

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra from a screenplay by Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines, and Sohrab Noshirvani and starring Dwayne Johnson, Noah Centineo, Aldis Hodge, Sarah Shahi, Quintessa Swindell, and Pierce Brosnan, Black Adam is scheduled to be released in the United States on October 21, 2022.
