Blumhouse Slasher They/Them to Stream on Peacock this Summer

Peacock has announced LGBTQIA+ horror film They/Them will be available for streaming this summer, along with releasing some first-look images. The slasher film, cleverly pronounced “they-slash-them”, was initially titled Whistler Camp. The film is set in a gay conversion camp where Kevin Bacon’s character, Owen Whistler, serves as camp director. Writer John Logan makes his directorial debut on the new original horror film.

Logan insists that underneath the scares and gore, lies a story of love and acceptance. In a statement with Peacock, Logan said:

They/Them has been germinating within me my whole life. I’ve loved horror movies as long as I can remember, I think because monsters represent ‘the other’ and as gay kid I felt a powerful sense of kinship with those characters who were different, outlawed, or forbidden. I wanted to make a movie that celebrates queerness, with characters that I never saw when I was growing up. When people walk away from the movie, I hope they’re going to remember the incredible love that these kids have for each other and how that love needs to be protected and celebrated.”

The three-time Oscar-nominated writer, whose credits include Skyfall, Gladiator, and The Aviator, will also serve as executive producer. Bacon, Scott Turner Schofield (The Craft: Legacy), Howie Young (Mission: Impossible III), and Jon Romano (Firestarter (2022)) also serve as executive producers. Jason Blum (The Invisible Man) and Michael Aguilar (Penny Dreadful) are on as producers. They/Them is a Blumhouse film, producer Blum’s television and film production company that is behind horror favorites like Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Get Out, Halloween, and Us and the upcoming untitled Exorcist trilogy.

What We Know About the They/Them Storyline

Bacon stars as Owen Whistler, the conversion camp’s director. Carrie Preston (Dr. Death) plays Owen’s wife, while Anna Chlumsky (Inventing Anna) is the newest employee, a medic, at the camp.

LGBTQIA+ youth join the camp for programming that is intended to “help them find a new sense of freedom.” As if there wasn’t enough fright in the camp’s psychological methods, a killer on the loose makes the situation that much more terrifying.

The young actors playing the campers, round out the cast. They are: Theo Germaine (The Politician), Quei Tann (How to Get Away with Murder), Austin Crute (Booksmart), Monique Kim (Looks That Kill), Anna Lore (All American), Cooper Koch (Less than Zero), and Darwin del Fabro (Novo Mundo).

They/Them will be available to stream with a paid subscription on August 5. Find out more at
