Daredevil Showrunner Calls Disney+ Revival News ‘Bittersweet’

Steven DeKnight has called the Disney+ return of Daredevil “bittersweet,” but can’t wait to see more from the Marvel vigilante.

Daredevil showrunner Steven DeKnight has responded to the news that the Marvel vigilante will receive a Disney+ series without his involvement, calling the announcement “bittersweet.” Steven DeKnight, who acted as showrunner, director, writer, and producer throughout the first season of Daredevil on Netflix, took to social media to address the news that the character will be back courtesy of Disney+, saying that all he wants is a “great Daredevil show.” Something which we can surely all agree on.

Despite DeKnight not being involved in the Daredevil revival, Disney will likely take major inspiration from what he crafted in the Netflix show. Daredevil remains one of the most well-received iterations of any of the Marvel characters, with fans having called loudly for the series to be brought back ever since it was canceled back in 2018.

DeKnight is not the only Daredevil showrunner to react to the news from Disney, with Erik Oleson, who served as the showrunner for Netflix’s third season of the Marvel series, also taking to social media to praise the cast, character, and fans. “Thrilled to learn that #Daredevil lives on,” Oleson tweeted in response to the recent announcement. “Best cast and best fan base EVER!”

The Disney+ Daredevil Series Will Reportedly be a Continuation

While both DeKnight and Oleson will seemingly be left out of the Daredevil revival, the character’s return will owe a lot to them both, as recent reports have claimed that the Disney+ show will be a continuation of the Netflix series. As well as bringing something new to proceedings.

Reports have stated that Daredevil will be “the first of the Netflix Marvel shows to get a new but continued series.” This heavily suggests that the new Disney+ Daredevil series will consider everything that happened on Netflix as canon. While the news remains unconfirmed by any official channels, considering that Daredevil star Charlie Cox has now reprised the role of Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans can be confident that the actor will suit up once again as The Man Without Fear when he makes his Disney+ debut.

There have been rumors of a Daredevil comeback for some time, with the news that it is really, finally happening emerging at the end of last week. While no details regarding the cast or plot of the series have been released, the announcement included the news that Matt Corman and Chris Ord have been tapped to write the show, which will debut on Disney+.

Until more Daredevil news comes to light, Marvel has plenty of other shows set for release on Disney+ including Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Secret Invasion, Ironheart, Armor Wars, a series set in Wakanda, an untitled Halloween special, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, and the Hawkeye spinoff, Echo. And, if recent rumors and reports are to be believed, we could see the likes of Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, and more show up in several of these before returning in their own standalone shows.
