While we are only starting the penultimate season of Stranger Things, David Harbour has been teasing the ultimate ending of the show.

Stranger Things 4 is almost here, but with it comes the realization that the series is almost at an end after the Duffer Brothers and Shaun Levy confirmed that season 5 will close the book on the flagship series of the franchise. Although there are plans already being laid for a number of spin-off shows that will delve deeper into the Stranger Things Universe, this feels like the end of an era for fans. One person who knows more than anyone how that ending will come is star David Harbour, who recently called the planned ending of the series “moving” and “beautiful.”

Of course, fans have already had an emotional rollercoaster so far, with season three seeming to end with Jim Hopper, Harbour’s much-loved character, sacrificing himself to save Hawkins and the world from the horrors of the Upside-Down. However, as the end credits rolled, it became apparent that even though season 4 had not been announced at the time, the story was not done. By the time the trailers arrived, Hopper’s survival had been confirmed, and that means the show has the potential to kill him off all over again. But would they do that? Harbour spoke to Variety about where the series is heading, but he didn’t quite give away his own character’s ending. He said:

PeraMovies News VIDEO OF THE DAY

“I think it varies from person to person, from character to character, and I’m such a harassment specialist that I think I’ve gotten it out of them. It’s been back and forth about like, ‘What happens to Hopper? Is he a character that’s able to survive Hawkins or does he die?’ … I know what happens and it’s quite moving, and quite beautiful.”

Stranger Things 4 is as Long as The Duffer Brothers Teased

This weekend, the run time of Stranger Things’ fourth season was finally revealed, and all those that doubted the Duffer Brothers’ comments that this season was twice the size of previous ones were given more than enough information to make them eat their words. Coming in at over 13 hours across its nine episodes, Stranger Things 4 is a monster in all senses of the word, with a finale that is reported to be 150 minutes long.

One of the most significant advantages of streaming platforms is that they can allow creators to tell their stories without having to conform to identical episode lengths, and while many network shows in the past have either been forced to add filler or cut scenes to fit their scheduled time slot, Stranger Things has clearly been taking advantage to tell the story it wants to, with episode lengths ranging from 74 minutes up to that two-and-a-half-hour finale.

At the moment, the hype for the fourth season of the show is as high as it can possibly be, and with the first episode drop on May 27, it will need to be, as this puts it in direct competition with the premiere of the first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+. With spoilers set to spread through social media for both of these shows almost immediately after their release, it will be interesting to see which of them wins the weekend, and which becomes the real winner in the long term.
