Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, and director Sam Raimi have kicked off the Multiverse of Madness press tour in Germany.

It is now less than two weeks until Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness unleashes its secrets and changes the Marvel Cinematic Universe forever. Now the cast has begun their global promotion tour ahead of the film’s arrival, and that means we should prepare for two weeks of question dodging, misdirection and denials from Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen and director Sam Raimi amongst others as they attempt to keep the mystery alive for another fortnight.

Marvel Studios shared a post on their Twitter account that read, “The trip through the Multiverse had begun. The stars of Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness began the global tour in Berlin, Germany. Experience the movie only in theaters May 6.”

PeraMovies News VIDEO OF THE DAY

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been a long time coming thanks to the Covid pandemic. Having been delayed for over a year, the film has undergone a number of reshoots and changes to accommodate the changing cinematic landscape of the last two years. In a previous interview with Deadline, Benedict Cumberbatch explained that had led to a really testing time during production. He said:

“It’s been tough. I’ll be honest with you. It’s had quite a journey, this film. But not in a kind of poor me way, just like the nature of where we’re at. To try and make a massive film like that under the constrictions of a pandemic and the delays that have ensued, partly because of The Power of the Dog, but also because of everything that was lined up and had to be pushed back from Marvel. It’s been tough for everyone. Also, incredibly enjoyable and no less enjoyable than the first one.”

Doctor Strange Will Face Himself and His Choices in Multiverse of Madness

While there has been a lot of mystery around the latest Marvel Studios movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to pick up Strange’s story in the wake of Spider-Man: No Way Home, with the former Sorcerer Supreme becoming increasingly interested in the multiverse and in himself. In what seems to be a secondary theme of the MCU’s Phase 4, this will lead to a lot of contemplation and discovery about exactly who Steven Strange is and how he fits in the world and beyond.

The film will also see Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch coming up against alternate versions of herself, which in the trailer seems to lead to conflicts with both Strange, the Illuminati and herself as she is still coming to terms with the fallout of WandaVision. Whether she will prevail as a hero or villain is something that is not going to be known until the movie opens in cinemas next month, but her character is certainly going to come out of the story with a whole new future ahead of her one way or the other.

Early in Phase 4, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige discussed how the latest phase of the MCU was all about new beginnings and introductions, almost like a reset after the epic conclusion of the Infinity Saga. So far that has been proved right, with many new characters arriving such as Shang-Chi, Eternals, Kate Bishop, Maya Lopez and more all making their debuts in the last year. However, it has become clear that this is just the tip of the iceberg as older characters have also been undergoing changes. Loki found a whole new life in his Disney+ show, as did Sam Wilson as he finally “began” his life as the new Captain America. Now we have big stories of self-discovery coming for Doctor Strange, Wanda and in a few months Thor, which, along with even more new characters on the horizon, proves the MCU still has a lot to offer fans in the coming years.
