Elizabeth Olsen Expects to Return to the MCU Following Doctor Strange 2

WARNING: Spoilers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are in this story.

With rumors circulating back in March that Elizabeth Olsen had extended her contract with Marvel Studios, it is hard to imagine that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be the last time we see the Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch actress appearing in the MCU. As a firm fan favorite character, Wanda’s transformation into Scarlet Witch at the end of WandaVision leads her directly into the Doctor Strange sequel, but where does she go from here? Olsen certainly doesn’t believe she is done with the character yet. Be aware that this article does contain spoilers for Multiverse of Madness.

PeraMovies News VIDEO OF THE DAY

Elizabeth Olsen has had quite a run as Wanda Maximoff in the MCU, from her introduction as a villain for most of Avengers: Age of Ultron, through the trauma of Avengers: Endgame when she was forced to kill Vision in order to attempt to stop Thanos using the Infinity Gauntlet and to her subsequent reaction to Vision’s death in WandaVision. Now in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Wanda is very quickly established as a villain again, but only through grief that has forced her down a dark path.

In the finale of the movie, Wanda realizes the error of her ways, and in an attempt to prevent the Darkhold, a book of dark magic, from causing trouble in future, she seemingly sacrifices herself to destroy the last references to the spells. However, this is Marvel and unless a character actually dies on screen, and even sometimes when they do, you can never quite rule out their eventual return. Elizabeth Olsen certainly doesn’t feel like she is done with the character yet. She told Variety:

“It’s weird that I’m expecting to return but no one’s told me I’m doing anything, but in my mind, I’m just making the assumption that they’ll have me again. I don’t know to what capacity, but I hope I’m back. I hope there’s also more fun to be had in something different. Where do we go? I feel like we’ve done so much with her. It’s been really a wild couple years with her.”

Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch Story Could Just Be Getting Started

From her beginnings as a secondary villain, Wanda Maximoff has grown into one of the most popular characters in the MCU franchise. Thanks to her change from villain to hero, and her romance with Vision, fans have been rooting for the character to find some kind of peace after the events of Avengers: Endgame.

WandaVision became an instant hit on Disney+ when it launched Marvel Studios’ new TV arm of the MCU, and while it appeared that Wanda was living her best life in the early part of the series, it soon became apparent that it was all a lie and Wanda was actually holding an entire town hostage to keep her ideal life a reality.

From that though, we not only gained two future MCU characters in Monica Rambeau and Agatha Harkness, but also saw the birth of a new Vision. With a living version of Vision out there somewhere in the MCU, it would be very surprising if there was not a reunion between him and Wanda somewhere down the line. For that reason alone, it certainly seems like Scarlet Witch has plenty of unfinished business to attend to for her to be gone from the MCU for good.
