New Multiverse of Madness Clip Emphasizes Doctor Strange’s Terrible Responsibility

In a new Marvel Studios advertisement to purchase tickets for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe big-screen sequel to 2016’s Doctor Strange, the short clip of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness emphasized the terrible responsibility the eponymous Doctor Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) bears for his desecration of reality!

The video is seconds in duration and was included in a Tweet sent by the official Marvel Studios Twitter account on Thursday, April 21, 2022. It begins with a psychedelic horror sequence that sees two images of Strange and two of Baron Karl Amadeus Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) rotating in a kaleidoscopic motion. As the shot pulls in to reveal another image of two Stranges and two Mordos beyond, we get an “infinite return” vibe as the words Mordo speaks in voiceover appear in the video as text. “I’m sorry, Stephen,” says Mordo. “Your desecration of reality will not go unpunished.”

PeraMovies News VIDEO OF THE DAY

Who’s the Bad Guy? Maybe Not Scarlet Witch.

Speaking of the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), the internet is already ablaze with people who haven’t yet seen the movie but have already decided that Wanda must be the villain. But the truth is, that plot point remains a mystery for opening day. What is clear from the trailers is that the Multiverse of Madness will be building on the Scarlet Witch’s most recent appearance, the first season of WandaVision, available for streaming now on Disney+. Not only have sets and costumes from WandaVision appeared in the Multiverse of Madness promotional material that has been released so far, but the setting of the show, Westview, New Jersey, has even been mentioned in dialogue. Furthermore, the season ends with Wanda in possession of the Darkhold, and the Book of the Damned is so important to Multiverse of Madness; the prop team for the movie worked with the WandaVision prop team on the design.

According to a quote from Russell Bobbit included in The Art of WandaVision, “We ended up coordinating with [the Multiverse of Madness team] in London because that spell book needed to play in Doctor Strange. Their design is what we used, and actually, London made the spell book for us.” This confirmation that the Darkhold will appear in Multiverse of Madness, and the direct connection it creates with WandaVision, calls into question the likelihood that Scarlet Witch is the movie’s villain, especially when the promotional material emphasizes Strange’s terrible responsibility for the multiverse he cracked open helping in Spidey get into MIT. But which “desecration of reality” will Strange be answering for? Is it simply his role in the super villain debacle at the heart of the plot for Spider-Man 3: No Way Home, or will we see Strange cast another ill-advised spell early in Multiverse of Madness’s runtime?

The movie will arrive in theaters on Friday, May 6th, 2022, but as the new video clip emphasizes, you can purchase your tickets and ensure your seat today. After all, you wouldn’t want your favorite seat in the theater to be stolen by one of your alternate timeline Variants, now, would you?
