Nicolas Cage becomes a Paddington 2 convert in the latest footage from the upcoming meta-comedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Released courtesy of Lionsgate, the clip begins with Cage asking Pedro Pascal’s Nic Cage-loving billionaire what his favorite movies are. Cage is surprised to learn that his top 3 include the 2017 family outing Paddington 2, but he is soon shown the error of his ways through a flood of tears as the little bear in the red hat tugs at his heartstrings. You can check out the hilarious clip below.

Nicolas Cage’s reaction to Paddington 2, and Pedro Pascal’s devotion to it, is entirely understandable for anyone who has seen the movie. Released in 2017, the family comedy is full of genuine heart, laughs, and an unbelievable level of charm, as the titular bear is wrongfully arrested and imprisoned. Of course, while behind bars, Paddington’s infectious good nature causes all manner of hilarity and warmth, all of which will likely lead to weeping.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent Finds Nicolas Cage Playing…Nick Cage

Nicolas Cage stars as… Nick Cage in the action-comedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Creatively unfulfilled and facing financial ruin, the fictionalized version of Cage must accept a $1 million offer to attend the birthday of a dangerous superfan (Pedro Pascal). Things take a wildly unexpected turn when Cage is recruited by a CIA operative (Tiffany Haddish) and forced to live up to his own legend, channeling his most iconic and beloved on-screen characters in order to save himself and his loved ones. With a career built for this very moment, the seminal award-winning actor must take on the role of a lifetime: Nick Cage.

Starring alongside Nicolas Cage as Nicolas “Nic” Cage, a fictionalized version of himself, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent features a supporting cast that includes Pedro Pascal as Javi Gutierrez, a billionaire and Cage’s super fan who sends him $1 million to appear at his birthday; Sharon Horgan as Sally Henson, Cage’s ex-wife; Lily Sheen as Addy Cage, Cage’s daughter; Tiffany Haddish as Vivian; Ike Barinholtz as Ray; and Neil Patrick Harris as Ted, Cage’s agent.

The critical response to The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent has been overwhelmingly positive so far, with our own Matthew Mahler saying, “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent ends with a standing ovation, and like much of the film, it’s both fact and fiction, a part of the movie and a part of its response.”

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent currently sits at a hugely impressive 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, with Empire Magazine calling the movie, “A big, silly, scrappy bundle of fun, packed with Cage-related Easter eggs and in-jokes, but also a whole lotta heart,” with Variety adding “A commercial comedy that has a delirious good time poking fun at Nicolas Cage, celebrating everything that makes him Nicolas Cage — and, in the end, actually becoming a Nicolas Cage movie, which turns out to be both a cheesy thing and a special thing.”

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is scheduled to be released in the United States on April 22, 2022, by Lionsgate.
