Posted 2022/04/27 14 0

The success of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies is seen through the fact that the franchise is so widely known that even those who have not watched the films are well aware of the swashbuckling Captain Jack Sparrow. Having started merely as an adaptation of a theme park ride carrying the same name, the Pirates of the Caribbean soon emerged into a popular and much-loved franchise with fans across the world. The first film, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, was released in 2003, with subsequent movies being released in 2006, 2007, 2011, and 2017. The last film released to date was titled Dead Men Tell No Tales.

PeraMovies News VIDEO OF THE DAY

The sixth installment of the franchise was announced in 2018. However, despite the many years that have passed, substantial information regarding the movie is scarce. Rumors and speculations regarding the latest installment movie have been abundant. In our quest to answer some of the existing questions regarding Pirates of the Caribbean 6, here’s all we know about the latest installment.

All We Know: Plot

With no official synopsis or trailer for the movie being released, the narrative is up for debate. As of June 2020, the movie’s script is still in the stage of development, having changed hands in 2019 from writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to Craig Mazin and Ted Elliot. Therefore, all we have to sail on, for now, are rumors and what we hope to see.

A prominent rumor in circulation was that Disney intended to create a movie with a female lead. Fans jumping on this tidbit of information immediately reverted to a character from the initial source behind the movie adaption — the theme park ride. On the ride, Redd, a redheaded female pirate, was initially a captive being sold at a bride auction. However, with changes that were introduced, she later became a pirate auctioning off goods she stole from the village.

While the sixth movie being spearheaded by Redd is one possibility, chances of this narrative taking hold are debatable as Disney has also announced a female-led reboot of the franchise starring Margot Robbie. Given that Disney already has a female-headed movie in the works, Pirates of the Caribbean 6 may sail a different route.

A possibility is that the sixth movie will carry off from where Dead Men Tell No Tales left off. The last film featured a post-credits scene that involved Davy Jones. Although Will believes that Jones appears to him in a nightmare, viewers are made privy to the knowledge that Jones was actually in the room through the camera zooming to show barnacles on the floor. Therefore, the sixth movie may revolve around the tentacled character. However, given the franchise’s affinity to stray from timelines, the possibilities regarding the plot are endless.

All We Know: Cast

A cast for the movie has not yet been confirmed. However, Kaya Scodelario, who played Carina Barbossa in Dead Men Tell No Tales, has stated that she is contractually bound to appear in one more Pirates of the Caribbean film. Therefore, we expect to see the actress in the franchise’s latest installment. Perhaps the plot of the movie could even follow her story.

Other than Scodelario, only educated guesses can be made about who may be a part of the latest movie. Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley may make a return, and Brenton Thwaites, who plays Henry, the love interest of Carina Barbossa. Rumor also has it that Disney, in looking to include more female leads, has been considering Guardians of the Galaxy actress Karen Gillan and Emma Watson. However, until Disney comes forth with a confirmed list of cast members, our guesses will remain just that — guesses.

All We Know: Other Details

Whether or not Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow will return to his role in the latest installment of the movie has been a burning question for many. Fan opinion has been divided, with some vehemently opposing the return of Depp while others refuse a future that is void of their adored character. Depp has been surrounded by a multitude of legal and personal troubles since being accused of domestic abuse by his ex-wife Amber Heard.

Production chief Sean Bailey indicated in 2018 that Depp might not be a part of the new film. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, when asked if the franchise could survive without Johnny Depp, Bailey responded,

“We want to bring in a new energy and vitality. I love the [Pirates] movies, but part of the reason Paul and Rhett are so interesting is that we want to give it a kick in the pants. And that’s what I’ve tasked them with.”

As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Depp, talking of the franchise during legal proceedings, has confirmed that Disney has cut ties with him. Depp reiterated that nothing on this earth would get him to go back to working on the franchise with Disney and said that “there was a deep and distinct sense of feeling betrayed by the people that I’ve worked hard for. People that I delivered a character to that they initially despised, but I stuck to my guns with the character, and it seemed to work.” However, Depp has also expressed his regret over not being able to give the characters of the franchise a proper goodbye.

Release Date

As of now, the majority of details regarding Pirates of the Caribbean 6, including the release date, remain unknown. Hopefully, Disney will decide to release more details regarding the latest movie soon. Until then, all we have are speculations and hopes.
