Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part Two Gets New Title

Posted 2022/04/26 17 0

Sony’s upcoming animated Spider-Man sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part Two) has undergone a title change. Revealed at the ongoing CinemaCon event, Part Two will separate itself from its predecessor and will instead be titled Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. Presumably, this also results in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse dropping the “Part One.”

Nothing is yet known about what Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will involve, but what can we glean from the newly revealed title for the third installment in the Spider-Verse franchise? While Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse introduced audiences and main character Miles Morales to the wonders of the multiverse, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will throw Miles into the multiverse rather than having it come to him, it sounds like Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will take things even further, even going, well, beyond the Spider-Verse.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Was Recently Delayed to 2023

Following the introduction of the alternate Spider-Man, Miles Morales, in 2018’s Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will see Miles once again dragged into the madness of the multiverse, teaming up with a variety of new Spider-People to take down the latest threat.

A recent synopsis for the Sony sequel reads; “Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered.”

Several Spider-People will join Miles Morales on his next adventure, including Moon Knight star Oscar Isaac as Miguel O’Hara AKA Spider-Man 2099. First appearing in a post-credits scene at the end of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man 2099 is an alternate version of the web-slinger from the future.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will also introduce Issa Rae as Jessica Drew AKA Spider-Woman, and while details of the movie are still being kept somewhat vague, the opening sequence of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse debuted at CinemaCon and quickly introduces Spider-Man 2099 and Jessica Drew to proceedings.

Of course, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will also reunite us with several familiar faces (and voices), such as Shameik Moore as Miles Morales AKA Spider-Man, a teenager with spider-like abilities who takes over as Spider-Man following Peter Parker’s death; Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy AKA Spider-Gwen, a super-heroine from another dimension; and Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker AKA Spider-Man, an older, disheveled version of Spider-Man.

The follow-up will even bring in some more obscure versions of the beloved Marvel character, with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse bringing Takuya Yamashiro as the “Japanese Spider-Man” from the 1978 Spider-Man series into the fray. But that’s far from the end of it, with Phil Lord and Chris Miller now revealing that the animated sequel has “240 characters.”

Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson from a screenplay by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is scheduled to be released on June 2, 2023. The third installment, which has now been revealed to be titled Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is due for release on March 29, 2024.
