Spoiler Warning: Tehran Season 1

Apple TV+’s Israeli television spy thriller drama Tehran was officially renewed for its second season on January 26, 2021, shortly after the first season’s debut episode premiered. Tehran is a fantastic thriller and drama series and was extremely well received by global audiences. The TV series is one of Apple TV+’s highest-profile originals.

The first season of Tehran premiered in June 2020 on Israel’s Kan public channel before it was premiered globally on Apple TV+ in September of the same year. It was co-produced by Cineflix, Kan 11, and Apple TV+. One of the show’s creators is Moshe Zonder, who was also behind the popular Netflix series Fauda. Maor Kohn and Dana Eden are the other two show creators. The TV series is directed by Daniel Syrkin and executive produced by Eden and Shula Spiegel for Donna and Shula Productions, Peter Emerson for Cineflix Studios, Alon Aranya for Paper Plane Productions, Julien Leroux for Paper Entertainment, and Shenhar, Zonder, Syrkin, and Eldad Koblenz for Kan 11. Owing to the success of many of these shows, several American TV networks and streaming giants got on the trend of hopping on international TV shows being produced internationally.

PeraMovies News VIDEO OF THE DAY

In a nutshell, Tehran is based on an international conflict between two countries, Israel and Iran. The show explores the world of espionage while majorly focusing on the battle between the Iranians and Israelis. It follows Tamar, a Mossad hacker-agent who infiltrates this city under a false identity in the hopes of destroying the nuclear reactor in Iran. However, her mission falls apart, and she has to develop a new operation that puts everyone dear to her in jeopardy.

The show has received phenomenal reviews from both fans and critics. It has a whopping 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and 76% on Metacritic. The show also picked up the Best Drama award at the International Emmy Awards in 2021. With so much of Tehran season 2’s details out already, let’s catch up with what is coming soon and what we expect to see in the second season.

What We Expect to See in Season 2 of Tehran

We expect to see Tamar returning with a better plan to prevent Iran from getting the atomic bomb this time around. We saw Tamar moving heaven and earth to ensure her mission’s success in season one. But unfortunately, Gorev’s huge plan fell flat when all the Israeli planes started getting shot down one after another. At the end of season 1, we see Tamar leaving Faraz alive, who claimed that he spared her dad’s life when he was in the same situation. We also witnessed Milad and Tamar on bike riding through Tehran. We hope that Tamar managed to get back to Israel to regroup with Gorev.

With the mission failing, the threat continues to stand for the Israelis. This means that Tamar is going to have no choice but to stand up and get ready to go to Tehran and complete the job. One thing is for sure — we will be seeing Tamar and Milad get closer in the second season. Additionally, season 2 will also see several new characters that will help Tamar destroy the nuclear plant in Iran. However, she’ll have to come up with a different game plan to succeed in her mission.

The Big New Addition to the Cast

One big name we’ll be seeing in the second season of Tehran is Glenn Close. Close has been nominated for multiple Academy Awards and will be cast as a series regular in the upcoming season. According to Apple, she is set to play the role of a British woman named Marjan Montazeri living in Tehran. The show also stars Shaun Toub (Snowpiercer, Homeland), who plays Faraz, the internal investigations head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, and Shervin Alenabi (Gangs of London, The Bureau), a young Iranian dissident and hacker who plays Milad and ends up getting caught in Tamar’s web of deception.
