Natalie Portman wields Mjölnir in an epic new poster for the upcoming Marvel sequel, Thor: Love and Thunder. The promo, which was shared by Natalie Portman herself via Instagram, gives Jane Foster AKA The Mighty Thor her own heavy metal poster, with the actress captioning the image “And you thought you were the one and only…”

Much like regular Thor before her, this poster puts The Mighty Thor atop a mountain, holding her weapon up to a stunning blue sky, the tranquility of which is split by a single lightning bolt. The poster gives us another look at Natalie Portman’s triumphant return as a super-powered Jane Foster, this time sans her chrome helmet.

Jane Foster’s debut as The Mighty Thor has now, finally been revealed thanks to the recent trailer, the last few moments of which show the character in possession of a mysteriously reforged Mjölnir. How Jane ends up becoming Marvel’s newest superhero remains to be seen, but it is expected that Thor: Love and Thunder will take inspiration from the 2014 comic book run by Jason Aaron and artist Russell Dauterman.

The story finds Jane Foster taking up the mantle of Thor while undergoing chemotherapy. But, while she takes to her new superhero duties with aplomb, the power of Mjölnir stops her cancer treatment from working, putting Jane in an impossible situation.

Natalie Portman Worked Hard to Bring The Mighty Thor to Life in Thor: Love and Thunder

Portman, who was last seen in the MCU back in Thor: The Dark World (her appearance in Avengers: Endgame doesn’t really count) has dedicated herself to convincingly bringing The Mighty Thor to life in Thor: Love and Thunder, with the actress working hard to stand comfortably next to the behemoth that is Chris Hemsworth. “It’s otherworldly. I also feel like I’m so un-versed in what muscles do and how they get like that, like, does the blood drain out of you when you use your muscles? He’s looking good,” Portman said previously. “It’s a lot of pressure. I’m gonna look like his little grandma next to him.”

The actress has also stated that she trained “to look like an action figure,” and based on the footage shown in the trailer, she’s achieved exactly that.

Thor: Love and Thunder “finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace,” a new synopsis reads. “But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.”

Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 8, 2022, as part of Phase Four of the MCU.
