Thor: Love and Thunder Promo Offers Another Look at Christian Bale as Gorr

While we have yet to see the debut of Christian Bale as new Marvel villain Gorr the God Butcher in live-action, he was notably absent from the recent trailer, some more promotional art for Thor: Love and Thunder does offer another look at the Oscar winner’s extra-terrestrial bad guy. Coming courtesy of Twitter user Thor: Love and Thunder News, the artwork sees Gorr facing down both Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Natalie Portman as The Mighty Thor. This should be a battle of epic proportions.

This latest look at Gorr the God Butcher once again confirms that the character will undergo some radical changes when making the leap from page to screen. Gone is his alien, reptilian-like face, and instead stands the visage of, well, Academy Award winner Christian Bale. The grey skin has been maintained, however, with the character also sporting messianic white robes.

PeraMovies News VIDEO OF THE DAY

Looking incredibly angry, an emotion that we already know Bale can nail, Gorr the God Butcher is also shown wielding the All-Black, a Necrosword that possesses incredible power. Stolen by Gorr from a fallen God, Thor: Love and Thunder is expected to follow a similar origin for Gorr as the pages of Marvel Comics.

Gorr Has a Deadly Vendetta Against Thor & the Rest of the Gods

Born on a planet with no name and living every day on the brink of starvation, Gorr was taught to trust in the gods, but they never answered his prayers. After living a tragic life filled with death and struggle, Gorr abandoned his belief in the Gods, leading to his exile. While wandering the desert close to death, Gorr witnessed a pair of battling gods and, realizing that they did indeed exist, they just didn’t care, Gorr became enraged. Bonding with the dark god’s sword, Gorr is transformed into an amorphous mass of living darkness, his hatred of the gods leading him on a revenge mission across time and space.

Based on the newly released trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder, Gorr will indeed embark on a deadly vendetta against the Gods, with the footage showing a colossal dead God that has likely been butchered by the almighty Gorr.

Beyond Gorr’s journey, Thor: Love and Thunder finds Thor on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher, who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie, Korg and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, and starring Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Chris Pratt, Jaimie Alexander, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Jeff Goldblum, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper, Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 8, 2022, as part of Phase Four of the MCU.
