Two films from the early slate of Zack Snyder’s career are heading to streaming availability at HBO Max. In its recent roster for the movie that will release on the platform in June, HBO Max also added Zack Snyder’s 300 (2007) and Watchmen (2009) to the list. These films are rated among the top features helmed by Zack Snyder, which essentially skyrocketed his career in feature film direction.

300 was Zack Snyder’s only second feature film. It was an epic historical film based on the graphic comic book series by Frank Miller, which reimagined the Battle of Thermopylae and King Leonidas’s march against the large Persian army led by Xerxes. Shot primarily on a superimposition chroma key screen, 300 got acclaim for its visual style, and Zack’s direction was specifically praised. His work on the film earned him international recognition, which led to his first DC assignment.

Watchmen was Zack Snyder’s third venture and his first foray into the DC Comics universe. An unconventional choice, Snyder picked the limited series issue to adapt into a movie. The characters weren’t as famous as the other DC properties, but Zack’s idea behind the adaptation, though complex, was stylish and visually compelling. The film, despite polarized reviews, remains one of the best DC Comics adaptations of all time.

Now, both these films will be available to stream on HBO Max from June. Though both were Warner Bros. distribution, HBO Max has just got the streaming rights for the properties. With this decision, these join Snyder’s other films in the same fold.

Other Zack Snyder Movies on HBO Max

After Watchmen, Snyder became the leading visionary for DC’s future in the live-action format. Snyder and Warner Bros. started plans for a cinematic crossover franchise like MCU, starting with Man of Steel. With Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Snyder devised plans for multiple solo and crossover Justice League films for the next few years. It’s widely known that his plans never turned fruitful. However, he got his dream project, the Snyder Cut of Justice League, greenlit and released on streaming. The franchise, now dubbed DC Extended Universe, continues, while Snyder has moved on to other projects with Netflix, starting with Army of the Dead, which has spun a franchise of its own.

His three films, Man of Steel, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League, are all available on HBO Max. HBO Max has regarded them as Zack Snyder’s Trilogy, honoring his version while moving on with a fresh one. Other DCEU projects are also available to stream on the platform. While Snyder has exclusively produced Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984, he has acted as an executive producer for the rest of the films. With Watchmen and 300 added to the roster, HBO Max is like home for Snyder’s releases now.

Zack Snyder is currently working on his next project Rebel Moon. The film is a sci-fi space adventure, with its story ripped out of Snyder’s unproduced script for a Star Wars movie. The film will release on Netflix. The film will star Sofia Boutella in the lead role alongside an ensemble including Charlie Hunnam, Ray Fisher, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Jena Malone, Ed Skrein, Corey Stoll, Fra Fee, and Michiel Huisman.
