Sony has confirmed that they will be moving ahead with Venom 3. The studio revealed that a sequel to the Tom Hardy-led comic book movie franchise has been given the go-ahead at the ongoing CinemaCon event. While no talent has yet been revealed, it is expected that Tom Hardy will return to reprise the dual role of Eddie Brock and the extra-terrestrial symbiote known as Venom, roles he has played since their big-screen debut back in 2018.

It is unknown who will helm Venom 3, but it is worth noting that Venom: Let There Be Carnage director Andy Serkis has since expressed interest in returning for more Sony/Marvel action. Venom exploded onto the silver screen in 2018’s Venom, which introduced audiences to the crusading journalist, and life’s loser, Eddie Brock. While investigating a shady corporation, Brock is bonded with a mysterious sentient goo from outer space, and before you know it, Brock and the goo (named Venom) have embarked on one of cinema’s greatest bromances.

PeraMovies News VIDEO OF THE DAY

After making an incredibly impressive $856 million worldwide, Venom was met with a sequel in 2021. Directed by Andy Serkis, Venom: Let There Be Carnage reunites audiences with Brock and his extra-terrestrial buddy as the journalist attempts to reignite his career by interviewing serial killer Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson), who becomes the host of an alien symbiote similar to Venom named Carnage.

Much like its predecessor, Venom: Let There Be Carnage was met with decidedly mixed reviews from critics, but was once again a hit with audiences, grossing $502 million worldwide and becoming the seventh-highest-grossing movie of the year. After such huge financial successes, a third Venom outing was near-enough inevitable, and will no doubt help Sony continue their somewhat misguided Spider-Man spinoff universe.

Tom Hardy Wants Venom 3 to Get Involved in the Multiverse

Thanks to the MCU outing Spider-Man: No Way Home, the multiverse has now been unleashed, with Hardy even making a brief cameo during a post-credits scene. A scene that saw Eddie Brock leave a sliver of Venom in the MCU. Though details of Venom 3 are being kept a secret, Hardy has expressed interest in the Venom franchise becoming more heavily involved in the multiversal madness once the Venom-Verse has been well-established, of course.

“Once it’s established, we then have to continue our Venom-verse,” the actor explained. “But at the same time, we will always be looking to campaign to play with that with all the brothers and sisters who are out there, do you know what I mean? Whether we can connect the dots, that’s up to the constellations, and that’s above my pay grade, but we would be remiss not to think about that when we’re working on the material.”

CinemaCon has revealed much more than just the confirmation of Venom 3. So far, the event has provided our first posters for action sequels John Wick: Chapter 4 and The Expendables 4, as well as revealing that another Ghostbusters movie is now in development. A whole of posters teasing the upcoming DC movie slate have also now been unveiled.
